1. Department. Museo de Historia Natural, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Peru, is the national Botanical museum with more than 90 years of experience in investigating Peru’s vegetation and teaching botany, and comprehensive experience in managing projects.
2. Expertise. Its palm collection is among the most important of the herbarium being large, representative, well organized and well identified. Palm research is mainly focused at taxonomy, ecology, and anatomy and genetics and is undertaken both in Amazon basin rainforests and in mountain forest ecosystems, and integrates a group of scientists with distinct research interests. The group has specifically focused at the economically important genera, such as Astrocaryum and Euterpe.
